From the Government of Turkmenistan to the UNFPA

Goal: To research the internal and external migration situation in Turkmenistan

Objectives:

The migration Survey in Turkmenistan will collect data from a nationally representative sample od about 1500 households in each velayat and in Ashgabat. This Survey has the followinf objectives:

  1. Internal Migration:

1.1 To research a legislation system regulating internal migration and to develop recommendation on its improvement;

1.2. To analyze the migration flows in dynamics since 1992;

    1. To identify a rate of temporary migration;
    2. To learn characteristics of emigrants( motivation, ethnic, sex and education characteristics);
    3. To learn the qualitative content of immigrants, motives of arrival, adaptation);
  1. External Migration:

1.1 To research a legislation system regulating external migration;

1.2. To analyze a dynamic of external migration flows, urban and rural migration;

1.3. To learn intensity and rate of external migration;

  1. Border migration
  2. Repatriation
  3. Refugees
    1. To review a legislation system regulating refugees issues;
    2. To analyze a causes and flows;
  1. Migration Statistics:
    1. To review a current statistics on migration and to evaluate its effectiveness according to the international standards;
    2. To develop a recommendation on improvement of migration statistics;

Expecting Results:

  1. Updated information on migration situation in Turkmenistan;
  2. Identifying a migration indicators which are not covered by current registration system;
  3. Developed recommendation on improvement of legislation system and statistics on migration;
