Brief Description:

The main objective of this sub-project is an increased level of support from national and local leaders for the concepts of reproductive health, reproductive rights and gender issues. The activities of this sub- project will be in three areas, which correspond to the outputs and the responsibilities of the four implementing agencies. The project aims at strengthening strategies, improving information services on Reproductive Health, reproductive rights and gender issues, strengthening technical support to the Women's Union, Youth Union and the National TV and Radio Company, as well as the increasing level of knowledge on Reproductive Health especially for adolescents. To ensure that the project is implemented in a coordinated fashion a steering committee will be formed immediately after the project is activated.
Problems:
  1. The lack of a coherent communication plan and supportive research agenda.
  2. Need for adequate and timely analysis of research findings
  3. Need to train NGOs and Youth Organization, particularly on community outreach techniques.
  4. Need for training of media personnel, and improved planning to produce effective and entertaining messages.
Outcomes:
  1. Develop an advocacy strategy aimed at influential political and religious leaders;
  2. Conduct sensitization seminars for high level national and local political and religious leaders .
  3. Conduct reproductive health, reproductive rights and gender sensitization workshops for grass roots religious leaders.
  4. Develop IEC materials suitable for distribution to each of the target audience groups;
  5. Enhance the capacity of Women Union and the Youth Organization of Turkmenistan
  6. Conduct seminars for mass media personnel to orient them to the advocacy issues including International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) goals;
  7. Produce and broadcast relevant and effective programs through television and radio targeted at political, national and local leaders;
  8. Conduct information campaigns targeted at men's involvement in reproductive health and gender issues;
  9. Develop appropriate IEC materials and train peer educators and counselors to reach young people, especially for out-of-school youth;
  10. Conduct study tours for selected national and local leaders to countries having effective advocacy programs .
