Equipment and Contraceptive Supply Project

Brief Description:
In line with the State Health Program of the President the goal of the project is to make contribution to the quality improvement of life of the people of Turkmenistan through improvements in reproductive health, the promotion of gender equity and equality and a better understanding of the population and development interrelationships, including environment. The proposed procurement project is designed to build on the successes of earlier support provided by UNFPA assistance to Turkmenistan. The proposed procurement project is developed to allow procurement procedures to start as soon as possible. Specifications of medical equipment/instruments and essential contraceptives to be provided under this project, were jointly identified by the Government of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Health and medical Industry and UNFPA. It includes kits of clinical instruments for ante-natal, delivery, post-and neonatal health care purposes as well as for family planning services. Support will be provided to different levels of facilities in order to cover essential referral needs. The procurement will also cover the provision of FPh bags/kits as well as equipment and vehicles requirements
OBJECTIVES:
  1. Strengthened policy making and management capacity of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry support of the health reforms in which RH services have an important function for establishing effective primary health care.
  2. Strengthened RH service provision - from prevention at household level to referral at etrap/velayat level - through a network of centers that provide an essential package of basic RH services.
  3. Increased level of knowledge and awareness of RH and population and development issues through high-quality coverage by mass media and other IEC channels, with particular attention to the RH needs of adolescents
  4. Increased reliability of management of services and supply and distribution of a balanced mix of modern contraceptive methods. All the outputs of this project are to be achieved thorough necessary equipment provision.
OUTCOMES
  • Health Reform & Medical Statistics Department of the MOH and velayat departments equipped.
  • RH Centers for adolescents and Health Houses in velayats and the head office department for training of FPh on RH equipped.
  • MCH Center of contraceptives storage and distribution equipped.
  • Provide medical departments on safe motherhood with autoclaves.
  • About 1,000 family physicians will be provided with FPh kits.
  • Centers will be provided with vehicles to conduct preventive activity in remote etraps (districts).
  • Centers for Medical Prevention and AIDS Control MOH & MIT.
  • National schools and counseling cabinets on the implementation of new school program in RH.
  • Supply of contraceptives of all kinds.
