Increased level of knowledge and awareness of Reproductive Health (RH) and population and development issues through Information, Education, Communication (IEC)

Brief Description:

The main objective is to increase the level of knowledge and awareness of Reproductive Health and related concerns, with special attention to the reproductive health needs of adolescents. The activities of this sub-project will be in three areas, which correspond to the outputs and the responsibilities of the two implementing agencies. Activities aim at strengthening policy and planning of reproductive health care; extending provision of reproductive health care, including services for adolescents; strengthening training and continuing family life in school education in reproductive health; improving information system in the field of Reproductive Health, as well as strengthening Research capability on Reproductive Health. To ensure that the project is implemented in a coordinated fashion a steering committee will be formed immediately after the project is activated.
Problems:
  1. Need to build capacity in the Center for Medical Prevention and AIDS Control at the central and Velayat levels;
  2. Need for production of quality IEC materials for television and printed materials for distribution to clients at reproductive health clinics and through community outreach workers and for use by health service providers.
Outcome:
  1. Conduct seminar on counseling skills in RH (on velayat level).
  2. Seminar on developing IEC materials in RH (Ashgabat, velayats).
  3. Equip Center for Health Prevention and AIDS Control MOH & MIT (Ashgabat and velayats).
  4. Develop and broadcast TV programs on issues related to RH together with mass media specialists.
  5. Develop and print IEC materials in RH for social and community institutions for distribution to women, men and adolescents.
  6. Equip national schools and counseling cabinets on the implementation of new program in RH (Ashgabat and velayats).
  7. Seminar on training of teachers of biology on the implementation of new program in RH (Ashgabat and velayats).
  8. Organize study tour for specialists in RH (country will be confirmed).
  9. Sociological research on RH.
  10. Poster contests on RH.
  11. Monitoring-control on project implementation.
  12. Support to "Healthy family-Healthy generation" program in Turkmenistan.
