Reproductive Health Services Project

Brief Description:

The proposed project formulated in close consultation with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry (MOH)) takes into account the development objectives of the Government set out in the State Health Program of the President. The primary goal of State Health Program is to improve the health status of the population through such means as the introduction of state voluntary medical insurance, the development of the private sector, the improvement of health management and human resource development. In line with this, the goal of the proposed project will be a contribution to the improved quality of life of the people of Turkmenistan through improvements in reproductive health, the promotion of gender equity and equality and a better understanding of the population and development interrelationships, including environment.
Objectives:
  • To strengthen policy making and management capacity of the MOH support of the health reforms in which RH services have an important function for establishing effective primary health care.
  • To strengthen RH service provision - from prevention at household level to referral at etrap/velayat level - through a network of centers and community organizations that provide an essential package of basic RH services.
  • To increase reliability of management of services and supply and distribution of a balanced mix of modern contraceptive methods.
Outcomes:
  • To have established a Steering Committee and a Working group to oversee a form of cohesive RH program within the health Reform office.
  • To have conducted two-day workshops and training courses for all medical specialists (ob/gyns, FP, mid personnel) and high level officials in RH field.
  • To have established RH service for adolescents on the national and velayat level.
  • To have conduct Annual National Conference on RH problems, focusing on outreach and prevention.
  • To have established and equipped the MCH center of contraceptives storage, distribution.
  • To have done mapping of contraceptives use and distribution.
  • To have provided contraceptives supply.
