UNICEF and Turkmenistan children celebrate the International Child Protection Day

UNICEF and Turkmenistan children celebrate the International Child Protection Day Ashgabat, 1 June 2009 The United Nations Children’s Fund congratulates all people of Turkmenistan on the International Child Protection Day and wishes a happy childhood for every young citizen of the country. On the occasion of this special day, UNICEF and the Ministry of Culture and TV and Radio Broadcasting of Turkmenistan are organizing a theatrical performance “Bovenjik” on 1 and 2 June 2009 in Alp Arslan theatre. 

UNICEF is pleased by the fact, that the highest level of Turkmenistan’s Government recognizes children’s rights as a priority area for Turkmenistan’s development. In his greeting to people on the occasion of the International Child Protection Day, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov specifically mentioned UNICEF as one of the major partners in promoting children’s development issues in Turkmenistan.

 

“As Turkmenistan celebrates the Children’s Day, UNICEF would like to note that this year is important for Turkmenistan. In November the world celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which outlines the basic rights of children worldwide,” said Samphe Lhalungpa, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan.

All events about and for children this year will be linked to the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and will highlight the world’s twenty year achievement in child development area under the major international document.
