UN Resident Coordinator Attends Inauguration of Children Camps in National Tourist Zone “Avaza”Ashgabat, 16 June 2010 – On June 1, the International Children’s Day, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Mr. Lenni Montiel, attended along with other guests and dignitaries the inauguration of two children’s recreation centers in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza”. The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov led the inauguration ceremony.

The new children’s recreation centers hosted participants of the 3rd International Festival of Gifted Children coming from Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Iran, Germany, Korea, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Senegal, Guinea, USA, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the UAE, including children from Haiti who arrived in Turkmenistan on the invitation of the President of Turkmenistan.

In his address to the President of Turkmenistan, Mr. Lenni Montiel welcomed the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan to create the modern leisure infrastructure for children in “Avaza” and on behalf of the UN system in Turkmenistan congratulated Turkmenistan on the successful implementation of this initiative. “In this regard, we support the proposal to create an International Children’s Recreation Center in “Avaza” that will contribute significantly to the strengthening of friendship, mutual understanding and solidarity between the peoples and will be true realization of the UN high ideals,” Lenni Montiel emphasized.
