and Development Strategy |

Overview
The
PDS subprogram coverage is countrywide in terms of technical
support to the mini-census, training of NISF staff at
the velayat and etrap levels in data collection, demographic
analysis, research and training related to population
and development.

The goal of the PDS subprogram is to contribute to the
achievement of a sustainable balance between population,
resources and environment in Turkmenistan, within the
overall context of the Presidential Health Program.
Towards this end, the subprogram purpose is to reflect
population, reproductive health and gender concerns
in the national and velayat level development agenda
and thereby contribute to effective formulation of policies
that adequately reflect population and development relationships.
The overall impact of the PDS subprogram is a more conducive
environment for the implementation of more appropriate
population and development strategies, including the
reproductive health programs in the country. The subprogram
activities help build national capacity to formulate
more effective population and development policies and
programs through:
-
Improved data base, analysis and dissemination capability
(component project-1)
- Better
understanding of how population factors affect and
get affected by socioeconomic development at the national
and velayat levels (component project-2).
Together, these two component projects under the PDS
subprogram help the implementation of RH and Advocacy
Subprograms by addressing their needs for population-based
sample survey data.
