Population Development Strategy

The overall objectives is to strengthen the statistical office to provide basic demographic and social data at national and local level disaggregated by gender and urban/rural area which will serve the needs of policy makers for more reliable, timely and relevant information. This will be achieved through human resource development in the statistical office

Specific objectives are:

1. To strengthen the capability of the statistical office to collect demographic and social data in accordance with international standards and national needs;
2. To strengthen the capability of the statistical office in the use of sampling techniques and improve the knowledge of the users in the accuracy of the sample data;
3. To strengthen the capacity of the statistical office to edit and tabulating statistical data;
4. To strengthen the statistical office of Turkmenistan in the evaluation of statistical data;
5. To strengthen the statistical office of Turkmenistan to disseminate statistical data in a timely and user-friendly way and in accordance with international concepts and classifications and national users' needs;
6. To support the use of new technologies in the dissemination of survey data (such as CD-ROM and Internet) and to diversify dissemination products in order to satisfy the needs of various users and different substantive areas;
7. To encourage Turkmenistan to adopt methodologies for the analysis and dissemination of data which are common to other countries in the region.
