Infant Health

The investigation results showed that Turkmenistan women, their families still continue to observe national traditions and customs, multiparty being one of them, while at the same time absorbing everything that is considered to be progressive. At the same time, if during the previous years the majority of women were inclined to have 5-6 children, now the results of our investigation are evident of decrease in reproductive directive up to 2-4 children in a family. The majority of investigated women consider 2 or 4 children to be an ideal number (33,0% and 29,0%). Each fifth-3 children (21.0%), each eight (13%)-5 and more children. Only 4.0% would like to have only one child and considers ideal to have no children at all.

The analysis of the reproductive function of women involved showed that delivery was the major outcome of all pregnancies. However, if delivery, being the outcome of the first pregnancy equaled 90.0%, then at the time of the second pregnancy it already equaled 89.9% , III pregnancy-77.3 %, VI pregnancy-70.7%, and V pregnancy -65.4 %, VI pregnancy-60.5 %, VII pregnancy-56.0%, and VIII pregnancy -already less than half (45.4%).

At the same time, the correlation of cases of induced abortions and artificial abortions changed for the worse. Thus, as for outcomes of the first pregnancy correlation of these cases equaled already to half (1:1), while at the second pregnancy -already 2:1, III-2.5:1, IV-VI-3:1, VII-5:1, VIII-12:1.

It should be mentioned, that a child stays alive in most outcomes of the I, II deliveries (95.6%-3.3%), and later the tendency of some decrease of these indices appears (93.1%-92.9% at the time of III-VIII delivery). At the same time, the weight of children in average is higher at III-V pregnancy (3346 g): the weight decreases at the following pregnancies (VI-VIII), and the least indices appear at the birth of the first and second child (3164 g).
